Canada Day

"Papa, I want to go to Opa and Oma's Canada Day parade."
"Sorry, little man. Too far to drive."
"Ok." Sigh. "But their parade is awesome!"

We drove a short distance to Ktown's Canada Day festivities. A few of the highlights included a petting zoo...

Concentration

The Sprouts played Hangman while waiting for lunch at a local restaurant. The younger Sprout was intensely focussed on creating a puzzle that would stump his older sister.

Bad Breath

The light was amazing late this afternoon, perfect for capturing a portrait of the Sprouts. Only it didn't happen. They stood together, picture perfect, when the younger Sprout turned to his older sister and breathed on her. Hilarity ensued as said sister exclaimed, "Ew, gross, bad breath!" Once the Sprouts get going, especially Jo, no amount of cajoling can bring them back. Oh well, there is always tomorrow (after the brushing of teeth and a mint or two).

Overheard at Our House

During family devotions this evening an unexpected answer came from the younger Sprout after the introduction to the week's catechism question.

"What are the decrees of God?"

"Oh, oh, I know one!"

"Yes, Jo?"

"Do not text while driving."

To Market, To Market...

No, we didn't come home with a pig, but we did come home with baubles and trinkets, maple syrup and fresh produce. Fresh, local produce that, to quote my spouse, when you eat it, "You can taste the dirt." Last night we savoured the flavour of melt-in-your-mouth steamed green beans with butter, salt and pepper. Tonight fresh basil will garnish a three tomato pasta dish. Tomorrow's dinner meal will feature yellow and green summer squash. And sugar snap peas are available just for snacking. Delish!
